What is a Nature Nursery?
Nantwich Nature Nursery
Nature Nurseries have been an integral part of early year’s education in Sweden and Finland since the 1950’s.

The philosophy is to provide young children with an education which encourages appreciation of the natural world and instils a desire to enjoy fresh air and a healthy outdoor life in all weathers.

The safe and secure forest environment encourages and inspires children to grow in confidence, independence and self-esteem. Problem solving and perseverance are strongly encouraged, and children are helped to learn to assess risks for themselves.
Children quickly learn boundaries within which they must work and adhere to the rules laid down for their safety. They respond to the sense of freedom, going out in all weathers, and keeping dry and warm with the appropriate clothing. Within a safe, secure environment it is possible to encourage the children to move away from close adult interaction and to become more responsible for themselves and considerate to each other.

Parents of children involved in Nature Nurseries and Forest Schools report big improvements in independence, motivation, self-esteem and their child’s social development. These are all behaviours that enable children to achieve and succeed in their school years.

Children love being outside!
Playing outside for small children is very important for their development and that's why we will be a "nature nursery", which means we will commit to all children getting outside and exploring the natural world at least twice a day, for a minimum of 3 hours per day.

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing." -- Sir Rannulph Fiennes

We really believe that! We are outside in all weathers. We advise parents on the best clothing to wear and of course if your child really does not want to be outside we also have our lovely conservatory where they can wear their outdoor clothes and keep snug!
